Pathway to peace. Hope and change. Possibility and potential. These are just a few of the phrases Ms. Giffen thinks of when describing psychotherapy. As a seasoned professional, she’s guided many out of confusion and despair and back to a place of strength and empowerment.

Her ultimate goal with everyone is to increase self-awareness. By teaching awareness skills, she will help you understand “why you do what you do.” She places an emphasis on the “Now what?” phase of therapy that shifts the focus from an intellectual understanding to the application and integration of the material.

In a safe, supportive, compassionate space, she works with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, loss, death, divorce, relationship concerns, life transitions and changes, questions about identity, as well as anyone struggling with everyday life.  Using a holistic, trauma-informed approach – which includes mindfulness, integrated family systems, CBT, DBT, and strength-based systems – she will co-create a path that is best suited for you.

She’s been told her style is calm and gentle, safe and welcoming, yet she will nudge you if necessary. At the end of the first session, she hopes you leave feeling heard, and understood – with the thought that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Ms. Giffen has been a long-time resident of Prince William County. She grew up in the MidWest and received her Master of Social Work from California State University, Sacramento. Ms. Giffen has experience in a variety of settings such as Child Welfare, Emergency Mental Health Services, in-patient hospitals, as well as private practice. She’s offered numerous workshops and trainings, and authored the blog “Awareness is Everything.” She’s also appeared on several episodes as a guest panelist for the FairFax Public Access TV show Love Unleashed.
