Therapy is a powerful opportunity for self-exploration and change. Dr. Fitzgerald is an experienced therapist who provides a warm environment in which she helps clients increase self-awareness through the use of a variety of techniques and perspectives. She assists clients with discovering what works best for them, making considered choices, and finding the way to apply those decisions.
Dr. Fitzgerald provides therapy for individuals working on understanding and managing depression, anxiety and anger. She has extensive training in grief counseling and often works with people in life transitions. Dr. Fitzgerald also works with people who are working through issues from their family history – making sense of family trauma, abuse, parental alcoholism, etc. Dr. Fitzgerald is experienced in helping those with the issues of stress management, self-esteem and finding a sense of personal purpose. She also works with survivors of sexual abuse, and provides a safe and welcoming environment for members of the LGBT community.
Dr. Fitzgerald works with individuals only (no couples or families). She works with adolescents (16 or older) or adults.
Dr. Karen Fitzgerald is a licensed Psychologist in the state of Virginia. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and has a Masters degree in Counseling with an emphasis on College Counseling from the University of Delaware. She has experience teaching counseling skills to graduate students, and has research interests in the areas of group therapy, and the counseling process.
