Dr. Guya-Allen understands that no single approach is the right one for every individual. She provides psychotherapy services in a range of modalities including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution focused Brief Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy Substance Abuse Counseling, Trauma Focused Therapy, and Crisis Management and Intervention. She always strives to create a safe environment for all her clients. Dr. Guya-Allen also conducts testing for learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other emotional and behavioral problems in adults and youth. She has experience providing individual and group psychotherapy to underserved and diverse populations of adults suffering from chronic and severe psychiatric illnesses and co-occurring substance abuse issues.

Dr. Guya-Allen provides forensic mental health evaluation and consultation services in criminal and civil matters, including violence risk assessments, psychosexual evaluations, pre-trial evaluations of competency and mental- state-at-the-time-of-offense, pre-sentencing evaluations, and damages/causation/SOP. She has worked with a diverse population of adults, adolescents and children presenting with a variety of psychiatric and co-morbid disorders, and has worked in varied settings including a correctional health care facility, an adolescent group home, jail and prison settings, as well as private practice. She has provided oversight at an intensive substance use disorder rehabilitation program administered by the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons, where she also conducted psychotherapy groups with adults diagnosed with substance use/abuse disorders, severe psychopathology and personality disorders.

Dr. Guya-Allen received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from College of St. Catherine, MN. She then obtained her master’s in
Counseling Psychology from University of St. Thomas, MN and her Ph.D. in Counseling/Clinical Psychology from University of North Dakota, ND. She completed her pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship at Metropolitan Detention Center-Los Angeles, CA.
