Dr. Salazar has a gentle, nurturing approach to therapy. She guides the individual in bouncing back after encountering adverse life circumstances in a positive and creative way. She begins by helping you develop a positive self-image, building and maintaining healthy relationships, being proactive, and accepting circumstances that cannot be changed. Dr. Salazar believes having a sense of where you are going is important and learning to become more emotionally resilient can improve your psychological well-being and your overall health.
Dr. Salazar uses an integrative approach to therapy that is strength-based and solution focused. She has extensive experience in cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, play therapy, sandplay therapy, humanistic, and family systems interventions. She has experience conducting immigration psychological evaluations to help immigration courts determine whether an individual will be able to remain lawfully in the United States. Dr. Salazar’s clinical interests include PTSD, child & adolescent issues, family issues, ADHD, anxiety, depression, anger management, health psychology, positive psychology, relationship & intimacy problems, and multicultural counseling.
Dr. Salazar grew up in Arlington, Virginia. She is local to the Washington Metropolitan Area. She obtained a Bachelors in Psychology at George Mason University. She earned a Masters in Professional Counseling and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. During the course of her career, Dr. Salazar has worked in community mental health centers, private practice, community health centers (integrating primary care and behavioral health), and adult detention centers. Dr. Salazar is fluent in Spanish.
